​Carolyn J. Hill, 73, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at her residence, after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born October 22, 1940, in Princeton, Indiana, to the late Fred C. and Naomi (Skelton) Davidson. She was a graduate of Mt. Olympus High School, Oakland City College, and Indiana State University.

She was a retired teacher from the Pike County School Corporation, teaching there for 27 years. She enjoyed antiques, spending time in her yard, and was an avid U.K. Basketball fan. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Vesper Hill; a son, Brent Hill, of Evansville; and two grandsons, Alex and Austin Hill.The family would like to thank all the caregivers at the Oncology Hematology Association of Southwest Indiana Chemo Buddies, and Gentiva Hospice.

​Joan Louise “Joanie” (Holzbog) Roberts, 76 of Evansville passed away at 8:26 am, Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Joan was born June 3, 1937 in Evansville and graduated from Bosse High School in 1955. She served on the 1955 Class Reunion Committee and took pride in the fact that her class members remained close over the years. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ for many years, and later became an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, serving on the Outreach Ministries Committee as a representative to the Ruth’s House. During her years St. John’s, she sang in the Chancel Choir, was a member of the A1 Angels Sunday School Class, taught Sunday School, was a Youth Sponsor with her husband, and served on the Church Council. She also served as Secretary on the Evansville Tri-State Association Board for the United Church of Christ Churches.

Joan lived a full and active life; her biggest joy was to be with her family and friends. She planned many gatherings in her home, and always was happiest when she could spend time with those near and dear to her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Nothing pleased her more than their happiness. She was active in PTA serving as President of the Hebron and Plaza Park School organizations, and was a member of Beta Phi Sorority serving as President. She also taught piano for many years, and was happy to maintain a close relationship with many of “her students” as they became adults. Music was a big interest in her life.During her professional career she worked as a secretary at Union Federal Savings & Loan Assn., the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation, Gaither, Koewler, Rohlfer & Luckett, CPA firm, and ended her career as a legal secretary working 20 years for Attorney Terry Noffsinger. During her service as a legal secretary, she was a member of the Evansville Legal Secretaries Association where she served as President. She was named Evansville Legal Secretary of the Year and later was named Indiana Legal Secretary of the Year. Her dedication to this organization brought about her volunteer work to the Evansville Bar Association doing testing and training for potential legal secretarial applicants, as well as organizing educational classes for legal secretaries in the Evansville area.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara (Hagemeyer) Holzbog. She is survived by her husband, David H. Roberts, III of 54 years, a daughter, Dawn (John) Hays, of Lafayette, Indiana, and a granddaughter, Clarissa Hays, of Lafayette, Indiana.Her family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Mark Browning and his staff, to all the wonderful blood donors, and to The Chemo Buddies who blessed her so much.

​Timothy L. Ogg, 58, journeyed to his new home, Monday, November 4, 2013. He was born November 26, 1954 in Evansville, Ind.He graduated from Central High School and began working with his dad. He was a former member of Scott Township Fire Department and an EMT for Alexander Ambulance Service. Tim owned Car Quest Auto Parts Store in Wadesville and later became an electrician with Reitz Electric Company. Tim was a fan of NASCAR, enjoyed horseback riding, camping and four-wheeling.He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna “Ma” Ogg.

Tim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cathy (Stewart) Ogg; son, Matt and Nicole Ogg; daughter, Lori and Zach Marvel; grandchildren, Kyla, Jordan, Jhett, Lexi; father, Donald Ogg; sisters, Debbie and Greg Carlisle, New Harmony, Ind., Becky Ogg, Evansville, Ind., Penny and Mark Pinkston, Newburgh, Ind.; father and mother-in-law, John and Evelyn Stewart, Oakland City, Ind.; countless extended family and friends.

Raymond “Ray” Utley, age 58 of Mt. Vernon, died Monday November 4, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. He was born November 29, 1954 at Evansville, the son of Roy B. and Dinah (Patmore) Utley. He married Pam Craig on March 21, 1981.

Ray had retired as a lab tech for G.E. Plastics and Sabic in Mt. Vernon. He had been a member of the Eagles Club. He loved gardening and all sports. He was a member of the Agape Family Ministries. He loved his family and grandson.

He is survived by his wife Pam; his mother, Dinah; 2 sons, Jason (Valerie) Utley and Travis Utley; 1 daughter, Angie Knapp; 1 grandson, Logan Knapp; 2 brothers, Dennis and David Utley; and 1 sister, Cindy (Bobby) Breneman.

​Carolyn Sue (Meredith) Evans, 61, of Boonville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family.

Carolyn was born in Evansville, Indiana on July 2, 1952 to the late, Truman and Charlotte (Ritzert) Meredith. She graduated from North High School in 1970 and previously worked for Escalade Sports as a shipping clerk. Carolyn enjoyed spending time on the beaches of Florida, being outdoors, and especially spending time with her family and friends.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 43 years, James W. “Jimmy” Evans of Boonville, IN; daughter, Jennifer Evans; son, James (Connie) Evans, both of Chandler, IN; son-in-law, Roger Mason of Evansville, IN; sisters, Barbara (Larry) Dennis, Dora Casteel, and Linda (Mike) Coultas; brother, Rick (Connie) Meredith; sister-in-law, Sharon Meredith; grandson, Chase Evans; and many nieces and nephews.

​Keith Allen Hammonds passed away on October 27, 2013. He is survived by his wife of forty years Marilyn (Everett) Hammonds, daughters Andrea Campbell (Mike), Aleisha Titus (Ben), grandchildren; Anderson and Harrison Titus, Kristen Lappe (Dave), Kelsey Campbell (Brendan Kassel) and great grandchildren Cameron and Alison Lappe, sisters Maria Hicks (Steve) and Marilyn Hughes, mother-in- law Sally Hankins, sister- in- law Becky Overguaard, Nieces and nephews Erik and Dirk Hicks, Jessica Roberson, Amanda Gantner, Jeremy and Jennifer Uptain. He is preceded in death by his parents Leland and Mary Hammonds and nephew Richard Stone.

Keith enjoyed his work with Atlas Van Lines for twenty years. His hobbies were golf, bowling, horse racing and he loved music.

Donna Rae Milner, age 70, died on July 22, 2013, at home surrounded by family, after a battle with cancer.

She was born in September 25, 1942, in St. Cloud, MN, to the late Ray and Lydia Lardy. She married David C. Milner at St. Peter’s Church in St. Cloud, MN. on August 17th, 1963.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by two older brothers, Ray and Ervin. She is survived by her husband, David; three daughters, Susan Rae (John) Payne, CA; Kelly Kathryn (Jason) McIntosh, KS; and Kayla Marie (Joseph) Keller, Ferdinand, IN; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Kathryn, Nicholas, Hannah, Jenna, and Zachary McIntosh, Austin and Zoe Payne; and Jacob Keller; one sister, Lois Danzl, MN; three brothers, Marvin, Robert and David Lardy, all of MN; and many beloved relatives and friends.

​Lori Sue Dale, 49, passed peacefully away Thursday, June 20, 2013 in her sleep at home.Lori was a 1981 graduate of F. J. Reitz High School and until her recent illness, was an Assistant Administrator at Specialty Health Care. Until her illness stopped most physical activities, Lori would Power Walk 5 miles a day. She also had taught aerobics. She was a wonderful daughter, mother to her two sons, sister and aunt. She always had a quick smile and kind word to anyone she met.Lori was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Maitland and Mary Maddox and Merrill and Loraine Smith.She is survived by her two sons, Nathan and Steven Dale, both of Evansville. Also surviving are her parents, Susan Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Keith Smith of Evansville, and his wife, Annette, Lori’s stepmother. She is also survived by twin brothers, Christopher Smith (Kalah) of Evansville and Craig Smith (Jill) of Lexington, KY; step-brothers, David McMurray of Evansville, Joseph and Tim McMurray of Pittsburgh, PA and Jason McMurray of Harrisburg, PA. Nieces and cousins survive and also a single nephew.

​James Wayne Newman, 74, Henderson, died at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at his home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. He was a member of Bellfield Baptist Church. He worked as an insurance agent at Shelter Insurance for 20 years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Woodrow and Enorchia Sharp Newman. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Pamela Newman; two daughters, Toni Newman of Hamilton, Ohio, and Cheri Cannon of Henderson; two sons, Jeff Newman of Poole and Brian Newman of Henderson; one sister, Dottye Jo Conner of Jackson, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; niece and nephew.

​Mike Maddox, 61, of Evansville passed away Tuesday January 8, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center.The love of his life was his wife and family. Mike graduated from the University of Southern Indiana and was employed at TJ Maxx as Financial Control Supervisor for 26 years. He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral, Bingo Association, and Boy Scout Troop #99. Mike enjoyed auctions, B.S. & T.ing and member of Evansville Knife Club.Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Maitland and Mary Maddox and brother, Mait Maddox.He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Phyllis; daughter, Michelle Beckner of Evansville, IN; sons, Joshua M. Maddox, Jacob M. Maddox both of Boise, ID, Matthew M. Maddox of Evansville, IN; sister, Susan Smith; brother, James Maddox; 11 nieces and nephews and 18 cousins.

​Janice E. (Arnold) Snodgrass, 75,of Yankeetown, went to be with our Lord on March 17, 2013.

Janice retired from Helfrich Vending in l998 after 20 plus years of service. She became the trustee of Anderson Township on January 1, 1983. She worked hard for the community and very closely with the Yankeetown Volunteer Fire Department,of which she was very proud of.

Janice was a dedicated servant to her community. She took pride in her family and hometown. She loved to quilt. You could always find her wearing a vibrant smile and with a welcoming hug. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Thomas (Gene) Snodgrass.

She is survived by a son, Terry (Sherry) Snodgrass, of Yankeetown, a daughter, Cheryl (Sherman) Cook, of Owensboro, KY; a daughter, Tonya (Eddie) Bell of Yankeetown, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a sister and best friend, Judy Wessel of Yankeetown.

​Catherine Marie (Katie) Schwenk, 63, beloved sister, friend and teacher of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Katie was born on December 12, 1949, at home on the family farm near Jasper, Indiana. She was the youngest of the six children of Jerome and Magdalen (Reker) Schwenk both of whom preceded her in death.  Katie was a member of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, Indiana for 10 years. She began her teaching career as “Sister Mary Brian, OSB.” She left the order in 1981.

In 2012, Katie celebrated 40 years of teaching in the Evansville Diocese. She taught third grade at St. Theresa School from 1971- 1981 and third grade at Corpus Christi School from 1981- 1997. For the past sixteen years she taught third grade at Holy Rosary School. She received the Diocesan Teacher of the Year Award in 1993. She was very active in the Evansville Reading Council and received a Reading Council Teacher of the Year Award as well as a Reading Council Literacy Award.

Katie’s devotion to teaching children was a driving force in her life. She was an enthusiastic and organized teacher; shortly after one school year closed, she would begin to prepare for the next. She said that her favorite thing was to be in a classroom with little children; and indeed, children found in her classroom, a peaceful place of learning and prayer. Often Katie would call out to the children, “God is good all the time!” and the children would respond, “All the time, God is good!”

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” was the scripture verse that sustained Katie for years especially in her struggle with cancer, and one that she shared with all of her students. Katie’s faith, love, courage, and grace-filled manner inspired children and adults alike.

Katie is survived by her long time friend and “sister by another mother,” Karin Bagby, her sisters and brothers, Carol Schwenk Walters and husband, Joe of Indianapolis, IN, Patty Schwenk Sternberg and husband, Tom of Jasper, IN, Brother Flavian (Jerome) Schwenk, OSB of St. Meinrad, IN, Ambrose Schwenk and wife, Jane of Jasper, IN, Fred Schwenk and wife, Joyce of Washington, IN; by Karin’s family, all of Evansville; her parents, Osborne and Mary Ann Bagby; and siblings, Rick Bagby and wife, Beckey, Keith Bagby, Brian Bagby, Jill Bagby Wilhite and husband, Tom; and numerous nieces and nephews.

​Marvin Oeth, 78, passed away, Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at his home in Evansville, Ind. He was born at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, on September 25, 1934.

He was a U.S. Army decoder, now called the NSA, for four years. He worked at Mead Johnson for 34 years in the quality control stock room. He was a former member of St. James West United Methodist Church and was active in the church leadership. Marvin was first and foremost a family man. He enjoyed nature, camping, traveling and sports. He spent over 3000 hours volunteering on the LST. In later years he enjoyed riding his Harley.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Vivian Goodman Oeth; parents, Clem and Marcella Oeth; and brother, Lennert Von Clemm.

Marvin is survived by daughters, LaVon (Ben) Euler, Martinsville, Ind., Daphne (Don) Owen, of Evansville; grandchildren, Jacob and Clara Owen; sister, LaVonne (Bonnie) Spanos, Sarasota, Fla.; nieces; nephews; and best friends, Sam and Linda Richey, and Larry Hahn.
